Welcome to my first Top Ten Tuesday! This was one of the things I really loved when I was blogging originally, so I definitely had to bring this back. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where each week we discuss the top ten things in a certain topic. This week is things that will make me instantly want to read a book.
I actually had a hard time coming up with ten things, so this will be a Top Five Tuesday!
~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~
5. Jane Austen retellings/spinoffs. I love Jane Austen retellings. I could read ninety-seven different versions of Pride & Prejudice and still love the story. My favorites are P&P, Emma, and Sense & Sensibility. I also love when they have unique spins on it, rather than just being generic retellings. (The first one that comes to mind is Austenland by Shannon Hale, where a modern woman vacations to a place where you pretend to live in Regency England and the plot mirrors Pride & Prejudice. Don’t tell, but I like the film version with Keri Russell better!)

4. Pirates. Ohhhh pirates. I, unfortunately, haven’t come across many pirate books, but if I do, you can bet your butt it’s going right on my TBR pile. One of my favorites if you’re looking for a YA pirate book that’s cute and PG is To Catch a Pirate by Jade Parker. I’ve read it a few times, and I absolutely love it.

3. There’s a prince. Or a prince-like character, so like the son of a president, son of the village chief, whatever the context may be. We all have fairytales and we’ve all imagining marrying a prince. Of course, after seeing The Prince and Me, I don’t actually want to be with one. But I love reading about them. Like, there’s a prince and I’m sold.

2. Gladiators. (Or anything with an ancient Roman feel.) One of my favorite television shows of all time is the Starz series Spartacus. Ever since I’ve watched it, I’ve been obsessed with gladiators. Unfortunately, I haven’t come across many books that feature gladiators. But if I come across one, it’s instantly added to my TBR. (The Valiant by Lesley Livingston, is a good/recent example.) I think the history is fascinating, plus I love me a good fight.

1. And number one, which you will learn very quickly if you stick around my blog, is gay romance. Specifically gay male romances. I don’t know what it is. I cannot pinpoint the time when I became so interested in male/male romances.
But honestly, I will read any books, watch any show, watch any movie, etc. etc. if you tell me there is a cute (or angsty) gay romance. Many of my favorite books and series feature them. I’m a sucker. I think with our society and the pressures we put on boys and men to be “manly” and not show emotion toward each other, I find it so incredibly fascinating to watch and read about two men falling in love. Sue me.
Me, summed up in one image:

Jane Austen retellings can be so good. I really need to watch Austenland soon 🙂
I could do with a few pirate themed books as well since I started watching Black Sails. The cover of Starflight looks gorgeous, so will have to check that one out 🙂

If you like the idea of space pirates, Starflight is fun. And the book itself is goooorgeous! And I do enjoy Austenland. It’s one of my favorite movies to put on before bed!
