Top Ten Tuesday #3: Same Cover, Different Book

Hey friends! Welcome back to another Top Ten Tuesday. For anyone who may not know, Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by our friends over at The Broke and the Bookish. This week was a cover-themed freebie. I wanted to do something a little different, rather than just Top Ten Cover Buys or Top Ten Favorite Covers. Because I’ll probably end up doing those another time, not part of TTT. This week, I’m doing covers that remind me of each other. And once again, I don’t have ten things. But here we are!

 

The Ascendance Trilogy by Jennifer A. Nielsen &
the Captive Prince trilogy by C.S. Pacat

First we have the three novels in the Captive Prince trilogy.

Then we have the three novels in The Ascendance Trilogy.

Just look at the middle two books especially. Are these not the same cover?? Not that I’m complaining. I will admit that one of the reasons I picked up The False Prince so soon after finishing Captive Prince was because of the similar covers and similar names. False Prince, Captive Prince. You know. And these are now two of my favorite book series of all times. So definitely no complaints.

I think we can just file this under generic YA cover and be done with it. There are a ton of covers that have this exact vibe, these are just the ones that first came to mind. Interestingly enough, and I think we can all agree, these are definitely the inferior version of The Winner’s Trilogy covers (and definitely the inferior versions of The Ascendance Trilogy, though I’m still pretty sure I’m the only one who’s read this book series…). I think a lot of publishers are trying to capitalize on Throne of Glass with this aesthetic (because Throne of Glass would easily fit in with these covers), even if girl-with-weapon doesn’t fit the book. Because, you know, the whole point of The Winner’s Trilogy was that Kestrel wasn’t a warrior. But okay. Sure.

Twilight/Life and Death by Stephenie Meyer &
Winter by Marissa Meyer

I didn’t realize until I was typing this that the authors have the same last name! But anyway, it makes sense that Twilight and Life and Death have similar covers. (In this case, it’s not same cover, different book; it’s same cover, same book.) But as soon as I saw the cover for Winter by Marissa Meyer, it immediately reminded me of Life and Death. I get how the apple relates to Winter, a Snow White retelling. Still trying to figure out how it relates to vampires…

A Weekend with Mr. Darcy by Victoria Connelly &
The Single Girl’s To-Do List by Lindsey Kelk &
In the Bag by Kate Klise

(Yes, these are all different books. Really.) I own A Weekend with Mr. Darcy (and it was a rare DNF because I hated it), and recently I saw someone on booktube talking about a book, and I said to myself, “Wait a minute. I know that cover.” I realized it had the same image on it as A Weekend with Mr. Darcy. A week or so later, I decided to do this topic for TTT, so I was looking through my watched videos and even googled to try to remember what that cover was. I didn’t find it, but I did find two other books that use the same stock image. A Weekend with Mr. Darcy at least looks a little different… but The Single Girl’s To-Do List and In the Bag might as well have the exact same cover. Oy.
